Airman sustains injury after he jettisoned from jet

The second pilot of an Air Force's Alpha jet sustained serious injury after he jettisoned from the aircraft as it was on a routine training flight over Muang district of Loei province on Wednesday.

The first pilot of the jet however managed to land the aircraft at an airbase in Udon Thani safely.

The injured pilot, Squadron Leader Sukhothai Somsrisai, parachuted into Charoesook village and sustained serious injury upon landing. He was later rushed to Loei provincial hospital by civilian rescue workers for medical treatment and his condition was described as stable.

Air Force spokesman Air Vice Marshal Pongsak Semachai told the media that a panel had been formed to investigate the incident to find out why Sukhothai jettisoned from the aircraft.

He said the two pilots were yet to be questioned.
