Nakhon Phanom: A thrilling chase! A suspicious pickup truck was caught smuggling methamphetamine pills before being cornered in front of a municipal gas station in Tambon Tha Uthen, Nakhon Phanom Province. Hundreds of thousands of methamphetamine pills were seized. The investigation is being expanded to the financiers.
According to Thai News Agency, Border Patrol Police 237, together with security agencies, mobilized forces to hunt down a suspicious pickup truck after receiving information that it was smuggling methamphetamine from Laos to be sent to the inner part of the northeastern region. The truck was intercepted in front of a gas station in Tha Uthen Subdistrict Municipality, Nakhon Phanom Province last night.
A search found 70 bundles of methamphetamine pills, wrapped in black plastic bags, hidden in the car, totaling 140,000 pills. The driver, Mr. Khacharyot, age 64, was arrested along with Ms. Chuthathip, age 41, who confessed that they were hired to transport the drugs. They were taken in for questioning to expand the investigation to the financiers, and stricter measures were added to intercept and suppress arrests in border districts, including risky routes.
According to data from the beginning of last year, the Nakhon Phanom border area has had nearly 5 million methamphetamine pills seized. In the past 4 months, the Isaan area has seized more than 70 million pills.
