Security forces found a stolen pickup truck rigged with about 80 kgs of explosives stuffed in two 15-kg gas canisters and jelly cans of gasoline near a border patrol police camp in Thepa district of Songkhla on Tuesday.
A team of explosives ordnance disposal (EOD) officers was then alerted of the finding and rushed to the scene to defuse the two rigged gas canisters.
Police are yet to locate the truck owner, MrKartponPuwavimon, a resident of Thepa district, and his wife, MrsThitatha, who went missing after the couple went to tap rubber in their rubber plantation in TambonThaMuang.
Police suspected that the couple was assaulted by southern militants and robbed of their vehicle which was later turned into a car bomb and parked near the BPP base.
Security forces were later dispatched to the rubber plantation to look for the couple, but they managed to find blood stain believed to belong to the couple whose fate remains unknown.
