Bang Yai: The war of the carriers! A fierce battle broke out in front of a shopping mall in Bang Yai, competing to buy a famous brand bag after the store announced that it was selling only 300 bags. A clip of a dozen men and women physically assaulting each other in front of a shopping mall on Rattanathibet Road, Sao Thong Hin Subdistrict, Bang Yai District, Nonthaburi Province, last night at around 10:15 p.m. (March 21) due to a scramble to reserve a bag from a famous brand, which announced that only 300 bags would be sold as a limited edition.
According to Thai News Agency, the brand of bag is popular among teenagers, but it turned out that many older men and women, as well as middle-aged men, came to queue up to buy the bags. These individuals, known as 'carriers,' gathered, causing a fierce scramble for a spot in line. During the incident, some women had their hair pulled out in clumps, while men were pushed over and rolled. Bang Yai Police Station and security guards intervened to stop the incident, but the group of shoplifters dispersed. Subsequently, the brand announced it would 'indefinitely stop selling A Day Bag Medium.'
Mr. Suphiratphong, a 27-year-old carrier, stated that he and his friends were hired to buy bags of this brand, a model that customers desired. They had to stand in line since the bag model was a limited edition, accepting only 150 reservations per day. The brand planned to sell 300 bags per day, with each person having a quota of only 2 bags. If hired to buy 2 bags, he would earn 800 baht; for 1 bag, 700 baht; and if he didn't obtain any bags, 400 baht. He witnessed the fight and assumed it was over the queue, as there were more than 150 people, leading to verbal and physical altercations.
The scene at the department store was quiet the following day. The store had set up a table to hand out queue cards to those interested in purchasing bags, with a limit of 2 bags per person. However, no groups of shoppers were found waiting. Bang Yai Police Station officers visited the store to gather information from employees.
From the previous night's incident, Mr. Suprem, aged 45, was injured and knocked unconscious, while Ms. Sirilak, 27, was injured and physically assaulted. They have filed complaints, and the police are reviewing the mall's CCTV and a citizen-recorded clip of the incident to identify and charge the perpetrators.
