The commissioner of the Royal Thai Police declined comment on widespread report that he would step down to join the new cabinet of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The national police chief, Pol Gen Chaktip Chaijinda, is currently in the United States on an official one week trip from Nov 13-19. He is scheduled to visit several law enforcement agencies in the US, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), said Royal Thai Police office deputy spokesman Krissana Pattanacharoen.
The police chief would also hold meetings with US officials about crime suppression of all forms and collaborations between Thailand and the US on dealing with trans-national crime and terrorism.
Regarding reports about his resignation to join the Prayut 5 cabinet, Pol Col Krissana said Pol Gen Chaktip, declined comments on the matter.
The police chief would only respond to questions relevant to his duty which he strictly adhered to with regard to discipline and instruction of his superiors, Pol Col Krissana said.
