The Khon Kaen provincial court on Wednesday rejected an appeal for bail lodged on behalf of Khon Kaen University student Chatupat Boonthararaksa, alias Pai Daodin, by his lawyer.
The court ruled that Chatupat did not delete the content in his Facebook page which was deemed to be defamatory to the Monarchy an act seen as a symbolic defiance of the law and a violation of the computer crime law and the lese majeste law.
Also, the court said that the suspect, if allowed to be released on bail, might interfere with evidences or witnesses.
Among Pai's supporters who showed up at the court to give him moral support was social critic Sulak Srivaraksa.
Chatupat was accused of sharing in his Facebook page an article of the BBC about the Thai monarchy with some contents deemed to be defamatory to the monarchy which he did not delete.
