Department of Rural Roads Prepares Safety Measures for Long Holidays

Bangkok: The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources is preparing for two long holidays. The Department of Rural Roads is set to implement measures to facilitate and ensure safety for travelers during the extended breaks from May 9-12, 2025, and May 31-June 3, 2025, across all regions.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Montri Dechasakulsom, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, has outlined the department's plan to enhance road safety and facilitate travel during the upcoming long holidays of Visakha Bucha Day and the Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana. He has instructed agencies under his supervision, which include Rural Roads Offices 1-18, Rural Roads Districts, and Rural Roads Maintenance Divisions nationwide, to prepare accordingly.

The measures involve improving and repairing roads and bridges under the department's responsibility, ensuring they are free of potholes and equipped with necessary traffic signs, safety facilities, and adequate lighting. Accident statistics during the specified periods will be imported daily into the Rural Highway Accident Reporting System (ARMS) by 11:00 a.m. the following day. The agencies are tasked with monitoring road accidents and offering assistance in case of vehicle breakdowns or accidents.

For areas with ongoing construction projects, agencies must inspect and restore traffic surfaces to their original state or as close as possible. This includes paving road surfaces completely, installing clear temporary traffic lines, and ensuring all traffic signs and safety equipment are functioning properly. Adequate lighting in construction zones and nearby areas will be maintained to ensure safety for travelers.

The public is advised to plan their journeys carefully, adhere to traffic laws, and reach out for assistance or information if needed. They can contact the Rural Highways Office and Rural Highways Districts nationwide or the Department of Rural Roads hotline at 1146.
