DPM Prawit says DSI must enforce law

Deputy prime minister and defense minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said the imminent arrest of Phra Dhammachayo, abbot of Dhammakaya temple, won't shake him even if untoward incident will happen.

He also said the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) must enforce the law to arrest him if he is guilty.

Gen Prawit Wongsuwan's comment came after the Office of the Attorney-General requested the Department of Special Investigation to bring him to the OAG for prosecution for money laundering conspiracy, cooperation in money laundering and receiving ill-gotten gains from the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative.

Gen Prawit said everything would be handled under the laws.

He said he was not worried if the arrest is carried out under the justice system which the Minister of Justice is responsible.

Asked whether he is confident the abbot could be apprehended within the term of this government, Gen Prawit said the abbot is still in the country and authorities will have to enforce the law if he is guilty.

Under the OAG's instruction, the DSI must bring Phra Dhammachayo for prosecution within the 15-year time frame specified under the statute of limitation of the case.
