The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced that all food and drinks are banned on domestic flights in an effort to reduce the transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic.


The announcement was made on 30 December 2020 regarding the services for passengers on all domestic flight routes during the COVID-19 situation.


It stated that the spread of COVID-19 is increasing in many areas of the country and that the Government had set public health measures to step up COVID-19 surveillance and prevention in order to control the situation.


In response to these measures, CAAT has decided to ban eating and drinking during flight operations. In case of emergency or necessity, crew members may consider providing drinking water to certain passengers, but this should be done in an area as far from other passengers as possible.


Moreover, the handing out of newspapers, magazines, and pamphlets to passengers is not allowed, except safety-related documents.


Flight operators have been instructed to strictly follow these regulations under the announcement, starting from 31 December 2020 onwards until the situation eases, or further notice.


The Ministry of Public Health reported on 30 December 2020 that the total number of cumulative COVID-19 infections in Thailand thus far was 6,690, with 4,212 recoveries, and 2,417 are still in hospital. The number of deaths remained unchanged at 61.
