Grandfather Arrested for Fatal Shooting Over Debt and Noise Complaint

Sikao: Police arrested a man who shot and killed his nephew after he was upset that his nephew had defaulted on a debt of hundreds of thousands of baht, and was also angry that he had scolded his own grandson for revving his motorcycle engine loudly. The investigation team of Sikao Police Station led forces to arrest Mr. Sengiam, aged 65, while he was hiding in a room in a resort in Sikao District, Trang Province after he used a .38 mm gun to shoot and kill his nephew, Mr. Saksri, aged 51. The incident occurred in front of a house in Na Muang Phet Subdistrict, Sikao District, on the evening of May 5.

According to Thai News Agency, the investigation found that the motive was that the uncle and nephew had been having problems for a long time. The nephew borrowed hundreds of thousands of baht from his uncle but did not return it, causing his uncle to continuously ask for it back, until the two became enemies all the time.

Before the incident, the deceased was at his own house, but his uncle's nephew rode a motorcycle and revved his exhaust loudly in front of the house. The deceased scolded him before the nephew went home to tell his grandfather, who was the perpetrator. The deceased rode his motorcycle to scold him again in front of his grandson's house, which made the perpetrator unhappy and he pulled out a gun and shot Mr. Saksri until he died.

Initially, during the arrest, the suspect confessed that he had used a gun to shoot his nephew. After committing the crime, he handed over the gun used in the crime, which was a handgun, along with a single fired .38 caliber bullet casing. He was taken to Sikao Police Station for prosecution on several charges, such as murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition without permission, and carrying a firearm in a city, village, or public road without a license.
