Thailand, during its participation in the ASEAN Ministerial Dialogue on Strengthening Women’s Role for Sustainable Peace and Security, highlighted the need to promote gender equality during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mrs. Busaya Mathelin, represented Thailand during this meeting. She stressed the importance of enhanced participation of women peacebuilders in peace processes, women empowerment, and capacity building for women in all dimensions.
She also called for collecting data and statistics on women’s participation, strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships, and women’s economic empowerment, with a view to developing policies that meet women’s needs and promote gender equality in employment and business.
Thailand also reaffirmed commitment to support the work of the ASEAN Women for Peace Registry (AWPR) and its network expansion, which will further promote peace, security, and sustainable development in the region.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the ASEAN Ministerial Dialogue on Strengthening Women’s Role for Sustainable Peace and Security discussed the implementation of the UN’s Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda.
It also evaluated trends, emerging challenges, and opportunities, and shared experiences, best practices and capacity building among ASEAN and Dialogue Partners.
