Prof. Dr. Phewphan Maleewong, M.D., Assistant to the President for Research and Graduate Studies went to sign an MOU for promotion of children and adolescents who are gifted in science and technology at the “Thailand Research Expo 2022”, an event which was organized at the Highlight Stage, 22nd Floor, Centara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Center, Central World, Bangkok. The MOU is the collaboration of NRCT, NSTDA and 10 network universities all over the country, namely, Thammasat University, Chiangmai University, Naresuan University, Walailak University, Prince of Songkhla University, Burapa University, Silpakorn University, Khon Kaen University, Suranaree University of Technology, and Ubon Ratchathani University. Dr. Wiparat Dee-ong, Director of the National Research Council of Thailand and Dr. Chadamas Thuwasetthakul, Deputy Director of the National Science and Technology Development Agency presided over the signing ceremony.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) sees the importance in promoting and supporting development of personnel in research and innovation, especially school students, students and youths, who are growing up to become key manpower of the country in the future. Through the past years, MHESI has allocated budget and entered contracts for funding with NSTDA and the 10 network universities in all regions under the work plan called “Development Plans for New Inventors and Researchers”. There are 2 projects under this plan:

The Young Scientist Competition (YSC) Project, which encourages secondary school students to demonstrate their capacity and skills that are innovative and creative in the fields of sciences and technologies

The National Software Contest (NSC) Project, which aims at developing computer program writing among all levels of young people, from elementary pupils, secondary pupils to high school, college and university students, in order to build programmers with advanced skill and competency to the software industry

The contests enhance experiences and train participants about laboratory skills so that they can grow up to take part in international venues. The projects will inspire children and the youths to become manpower in the professions of research, research engineering or innovator in the future.
