Bangkok: "Kan Jom Phalang" has taken "Auntie Somsri" to file a complaint with the Ministry of Justice, seeking compensation and witness protection after a luxury car crashed into a pickup truck, leaving her husband, Mr. Prajak, in serious condition. Fearing intimidation, the couple is navigating a complex legal and medical situation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Kanthas Pongpaiboonwet, also known as Kan Chom Phalang, who holds power of attorney for the victims, Mr. Prajak, aged 65, and Mrs. Somsri, aged 64, is actively mediating with Mr. Smitthipat, the son of a former mayor. The luxury car incident on the expressway resulted in Mr. Prajak sustaining severe injuries, including broken ribs and a fractured chest bone, requiring ongoing medical care.
Kan Chom Phalang has officially lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Justice, requesting compensation and witness protection for the victims. Ms. Amor Siang Yai, Director-General of the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection, has taken up the case. The Director-General explained that two petitions were filed: one for compensation under the Act on Compensation for Victims in Criminal Cases and another for witness protection due to safety concerns. The decision on compensation will follow an investigation and is expected within 21 days, pending medical evidence.
In the face of threats to their safety, the victim's family has requested witness protection. The department will assess the risk and provide initial safety measures under the Witness Protection Act. Mr. Kanthas expressed the family's fear of potential retaliation from the perpetrators. This fear has already impacted Mr. Prajak's medical treatment, as he refused a necessary procedure due to safety concerns. Despite the ongoing treatment needs, the family has yet to receive any compensation or responsible action from the opposing party.
Mr. Kanthas emphasized the urgency of the situation, expressing frustration with the lack of response from the other party. He noted that many well-wishers, including 'Khun Ning Panita', have offered assistance with medical expenses, for which the family is grateful.
Aunt Somsri recounted the traumatic incident, stating the image of the crash is still vivid in her mind. Despite offering apologies, she faced accusations and verbal abuse from the other party. She expressed gratitude to the citizens who came to their aid and reiterated her desire for the responsible party to cover medical expenses and car repairs.
The family remains cautious and wary of further interactions, focusing on their immediate needs and safety. Aunt Somsri concluded by expressing her hope for a resolution that ensures her husband's recovery and their family's safety.
