SHAH ALAM, Selangor state, Malaysia -- A crew member of a Thai tanker is reported missing after falling overboard about 11 nautical miles south west of Morib, near here, yesterday evening.
District Maritime director, Maritime Captain Abu Zaki Mohammad said the incident took place when the tanker was heading for Papua New Guinea from Port Klang, near here.
The Selangor, Maritime District 4, Operation Centre received information on the missing crew of a ship registered in Bangkok, Thailand at 7.18 pm yesterday, after they last saw him at 5.40 pm.
The man, Teerayouth, 28, is believed to have fallen overboard," he said in a statement here today.
According to Abu Zaki, the Johor Bharu Maritime Rescue Sub Centre had activated its search and rescue operation at 8 pm last night and the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) had also moved assets to the area to conduct a search.
He said the operation was still ongoing and the sector of search would be widened from five to 10 nautical miles.
