Surat Thani, From a mobile phone salesperson in a department store to the owner of a famous Pad Thai shop in Tha Chang District, Surat Thani Province, selling both at the store, online and sending to test the market abroad, earning several thousand baht per day.

Ms. Piyamas Phromsuwan, 45 years old, owner of Pad Thai House, located in Village No. 3, Khlong Sai Subdistrict, Tha Chang District, Surat Thani Province, on the Asia Road heading towards Bangkok, approximately 5 kilometers from Surat Thani International Airport.

Ms. Piyamas said that before opening the Pad Thai Tha Chang shop, she used to be a mobile phone salesperson in a department store. However, because she liked cooking and wanted to have her own career, she consulted with her mother to open a Pad Thai shop, which is a menu that has been eaten for a long time. It is also a food to entertain visiting guests or to serve at important traditional events. Therefore, she thought that Pad Thai Tha Chang was a menu that would sell well and make peopl
e know the shop and Tha Chang District.

For Pad Thai Tha Chang, the highlight that is different from Pad Thai anywhere else is the special sauce recipe, which has 5 flavors: sour, sweet, creamy, salty and spicy. It is made from a combination of the shop’s own special seasonings: coconut milk curry paste, Tha Chang palm sugar, shrimp paste or kad nam. All of these are local ingredients.

The price of Pad Thai at the shop starts at 65 baht per plate. In addition, they have developed it into instant Pad Thai in a ready-to-eat package for customers who want to buy it as a souvenir, including experimenting with exporting it to other countries, both in Asia and Europe, so that foreigners can try it. It can be stored for up to 2 years. The price is only 35 baht per set or 3 sets for 100 baht. Each day, they sell about 80-100 sets, earning about 2,800-3,500 baht per day. Importantly, throughout the 15 years that Pad Thai Tha Chang has been open for sale, it has been selected to receive the 1st prize for the Surat Thani Local Food Menu and has also been certified as a good product of Surat Thani Province by the Surat Thani Chamber of Commerce.
