Oil factory ordered closed for 30 days after oil truck explosion

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) today (Nov 29) ordered the Sea Oil Petrochemical Pcl to cease operation of its factory for 30 days for safety improvement following yesterday's oil truck fire and explosion at the factory.

The order was given by the IEAT governor Veerapong Chaiperm.

Under his order, the factory must cease operation for 30 days to fix and improve the affected facilities from the incident.

He also said the company must explain in details the cause of the incident, and must resubmit its improved oil transportation plan that meet safety standards to the IEAT for consideration and approval before being permitted to reopen again.

The factory is located inside Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate in Muang district of Chon Buri province.

The explosion reportedly occurred at about 1.30pm while fuel oil was being unloaded from the oil truck into a 40,000-litre tank. The truck was engulfed in flames after the explosion
