More than 2.8 million digital lottery tickets, for the July 1st draw, were sold in six hours, on their first day on sale, following the successful launch of online lottery ticket sales by the Government Lottery Office on June 2nd.

Chairman of the GLO’s lottery board Lawaron Saengsanit said today (Friday) that 5,173,500 digital lottery tickets were made available for sale via the “Pao Tang” platform at 8am today and 2,890,682 were sold to 521,427 buyers by 2pm.

For the first lot of digital tickets, for the June 16th draw, he said that 73,191 tickets, bought by 41,419 people, won prizes, worth a total of 247.43 million baht, including four first prizes.

Cash prizes will be electronically transferred to the winners within 12 hours. Winners can, however, come to the GLO to collect the prizes in person, he said, adding that many showed up today.

During the first draw of digital lottery tickets, more than five million were sold within a couple of days, because buyers were paying only 80 baht per ticket and could choose the numbers they liked.

The successful launch has affected many lottery vendors, who have been left with a backlog of unsold but overpriced tickets or have been forced to sell the tickets at discount.
