The Ministry of Transport estimates that more than 35.6 million Thai people will be making more than 521,996 travel trips nationwide during the upcoming Songkran festival.

The high travel trips are more than a 75% increase over last year's Songkran holidays, it said.

It also said starting from 1.00 am in the morning of April 11 up to midnight of April 18, the Department of Highways along with the Expressway and Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand will allow motorists to use Motorway Number 9 or Kanchanapisek ring road, and Motorway Number 9, or Bangkok-Chonburi tollway, and the Burapha Withee Expressway for free.
