Pai Daodin was formally charged in court and denied bail

The Khon Kaen provincial court has rejected bail for Chatupat Pai Daodin Boonthararaksa at a pre-trial hearing on Friday during which the student activist was formally charged in the court with lese majeste and violations of Computer Crime Act.

A student of Khon Kaen student, Pai denied the charges and vowed to fight the case in the court, according to his lawyer, Mr Krisdang Nutcharat.

The prosecutor objected to Pai's request for bail, noting that the case concerns the Monarchy and that the defendant may escape if he is allowed bail.

The court set March 21 as the date for the first hearing of the case.

The court session on Friday was held in camera as only Pai, his mother Mrs Prim and his lawyer were allowed in the courtroom along with the prosecutor.

Sympathizers and supporters of Pai kept vigil in front of the court during the pre-trial session. They later held a symbolic activity to mourn the justice system after they were told that Pai was again denied bail.
