Bang Phli: A tragic incident unfolded in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan Province, when a 54-year-old woman, struggling to breathe, mistakenly provided the wrong house number to rescue workers, leading to a fatal delay in assistance. The woman, identified as Ms. Orarut, succumbed to her condition before help could arrive, passing away beside her bedridden mother in a home overwhelmed with accumulated garbage.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at noon when rescue workers from Samut Prakan Hospital were dispatched following a distress call from Ms. Orarut. The wrong house number provided by the patient led to confusion and delay, ultimately resulting in the rescue team arriving too late to save her. The scene at the residence on Soi Chim Pool Suk 1, Nam Daeng Bang Phli Road, revealed a single-story house filled with piles of garbage reaching the roof, with only a narrow path leading to where the deceased lay next to her 75-year-old mother.
Mr. Phongsak, the 41-year-old brother of the deceased, expressed his grief upon arriving at the scene. He shared that he had received a Line message from his sister at 10.20 am, indicating her respiratory distress and need for hospital care. Unfortunately, he did not see the message until after receiving a call from the officers notifying him of her death.
Ms. Sumalee Boonman, the assistant village headman of Village 1, disclosed that the deceased had contacted the rescue team herself but mistakenly gave an incorrect house number. This error caused significant delays as the officers searched for the correct location. The deceased, who had been living with her mother, suffered from multiple chronic illnesses and was a regular visitor to the doctor. Her habit of hoarding garbage was noted as a contributing factor to the chaotic state of the home.
The local village headman recounted previous complaints about the deceased's garbage accumulation, which had led to threats of trespassing against anyone attempting to clear it. Following the incident, foundation staff transported the body to Rama Samut Prakan Hospital for a thorough autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.
