People flock to grab King’s commemorative banknotes and coins

A large number of people flocked to the Government Savings Bank head office in Saphan Kwai area to get hold of HM the King's 7th cycle or 84th birthday anniversary commemorative banknotes as souvenirs.

GSB was allotted with 300,000 commemorative banknotes from the Bank of Thailand of which 50,000 notes were reserved for the head office and the rest distributed to bank's branches across the country.

Each individual can buy a maximum of five banknotes. The 50,000 banknotes were sold out within two hours.

Earlier, the GSB offered 90,000 84th birthday anniversary commemorative banknotes to the public. They were sold out within a day.

Meanwhile, hundreds of coin collectors flocked to the Treasury Department to get hold of commemorative coins of HM the King and Their Majesties.

The department has offered on sale 10,000 sets of five coins each at 100 baht per set. Each coin was minted for different occasions: one to commemorate HM the King's 80th birthday anniversary; one on the occasion the King was bestowed with the soil scientist award, one to commemorate the Queen's 80th birthday anniversary.
