Police have found the stolen pickup truck used by southern militants in a daring drive-by shooting of policemen in front of Narathiwat’s Ra-ngae district police station on Thursday, leaving one policeman being killed and several injured.
The grey pickup truck with license No chor bor 7685 which was stolen from a couple at a fake road block in Sukhirin district on the same day was found abandoned in a rubber plantation in Tambon Tanyong Limore, Ra-nage district.
The military has sealed off the area around the vehicle while waiting for forensic officials to check it to look for clues or fingerprints which might lead to the assailants.
In what suspected to be a revenge for the recent death of their two comrades, the militants who disguised themselves as construction workers riding on the back of the stolen pickup opened up with assault rifles as it passed through the police station as about 30 policemen were gathering for morning briefing.
The body of the policeman killed in the attack, Pol Cpl Supaksorn Sayukongthon, was on Thursday moved to Wat Pa Suey in Mae Larn district of Pattani for funeral.
