PM formally asks for return of amended charter for changes

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said Tuesday that he had formally requested for the return of the amended constitution after it was approved by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.

The amended charter will be revised as wished by the King by an 11-member panel of top legal experts who include Meechai Ruchupan, chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee; Dr Bovornsak Uwanno, former chairman of the CDC, deputy prime minister Wisanu Krea-ngarm among others.

The provision to be revised regards the appointment of a regent when the King is abroad or cannot execute his duties. The King has wanted the amended charter to be revised in a way that it is his prerogative to appoint or to not appoint a regent when he is abroad or cannot perform his duties.

The prime minister said the revision process will take about a month, including the time required for artisans to craft the charter in traditional format.
