PM presides over official construction of royal crematorium

The government today held a religious ceremony to officially start the construction of the royal crematorium at Sanam Luang.

The ceremony which started at 10.01 am today was presided over by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

All cabinet ministers, military top brass, top government officials took part in this traditional ceremony.

After lighting candles at sacrificial offerings, the prime minister then anointed gold leaf, tied tricolor cloth to the main 20-ton pillar, and laid flowers at the base of the pillar while 10 monks chanting.

The main pillar was then lifted by crane to place vertically on the structural foundation.

The 20-ton main pillar and a super-truss structure were transported from Ayutthaya province to Sanam Luang in Bangkok.

Construction of the royal crematorium is expected to complete in September.
