Pol Gen Wirachai: Influential people encroach on Ko Tarutao national park

The deputy commissioner of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta says influential people in the South are encroaching on Ko Tarutao Marine National Park in Satun province for commercial land development purpose.

Pol Gen Wirachai, who inspected the area yesterday (Dec 12) blamed influential people for the encroachment of national park area on Lipe islands.

Pol Gen Wirachai inspected area in Moo 7 Tambon Ko Sarai of Muang Satun district and found the area is crowded with hotel buildings, resorts, and houses.

Moreover, a 3-kilometre concrete road is being constructed from the foothill to the top where a view point is located.

The deputy police chief said the view point overlooks Adang-Rawi archipelago which has earned its reputation as one of the most beautiful diving sites.

He said authorities are collecting soil, rock and plant samples in the area for geographical analysis to prove that the area is in the national park area.

Pol Gen Wirachai said police would pursue legal action against all these influential figures who encroached on the land for properties development.
