Quarrel over Dhammachayo led to fatal scuffle

A man was arrested on Wednesday by police in Porncharoen district of Bung Karn province on charge of killing his neighbor with a steel pipe after they engaged in a heated quarrel over Phra Dhammachayo.

The suspect, Mr Thanapol Singto, who was escorted by police to the crime scene in Tambon Nong Hua Chang for a reenactment of the crime, told the police that he and his neighbor, Mr Promlikhit Sommakarn, were engaged in an argument whether the former abbot of Wat Dhammakaya would be arrested or not.

Thanapol said he believed the monk would be arrested sooner or later whereas Promlikhit insisted that the monk would escape scot free.

The arguments heated up until Promlikhit allegedly grabbed a knife to attack Thanapol who managed to escape and grab an iron pipe which he used to whack at the former until he collapsed.

Promlikhit was later rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
