Bangkok- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), jointly with
capital market partners, will hold the Young Financial Star Competition 2017
(YFS 2017) aiming to cultivate knowledge and understanding of financial planning
and investing among youth at university level. The program's ultimate goal is
to help prepare them to be quality financial professionals for the Thai capital
market.
The awards include scholarships for further education, training, and
qualification tests, along with funding for both domestic and overseas study
trips, with a total value of more than THB 5 million. Over the past 15 years,
more than 70,000 students have participated in this project.
SET President Kesara Manchusree said, "SET values human resources potential.
Qualified financial professionals are essential to propel the Thai economy
towards sustainable growth and global competition, highly required by the
capital market in particular. As such, our stakeholders namely listed companies,
securities companies, and other entities related to the capital market
understand the necessity of creating knowledgeable, competent, and ethical
financial and investment professionals. For 15 years, the YFS competition has
been one of the key projects organized by SET and our partners in the Thai
capital market, well participated by over 70,000 students. We will continue to
support a new generation of financiers to reach world-class professional
qualities."
The YFS 2017 competition continues to groom a new generation of financial
professionals for the Thai capital market. This year, 5,900 students nationwide
have submitted the applications. A total of 274 students from 35 universities
have been selected to participate in the project's in-depth training. Throughout
the competition, the selected students will have the opportunity to learn about
financial planning and investment from experts. They will conduct hands-on
practical exercises both in terms of analysis and planning. The project also
grants scholarships for Certified Financial Planner (CFP) training to students
in the first round to give these students opportunities to develop themselves to
meet the capital market profession's requirements.
The contest partners include Thailand Futures Exchange pcl (TFEX), Muang Thai
Life Assurance pcl, and PTT pcl. It has also been supported by Scholarship
Foundation for Capital Market Development, Thai Financial Planners Association,
and ATI ASCO Training Institute. The final round in search for the new
generation's financial stars YFS 2017 is on August 27, 2017.
