Bangkok: Songkran in Bangkok is lively! The number of participants at Khao San-Silom has increased to more than 360,000 people. Officials are working hard to provide security 24 hours a day.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wirat Manasnithiwong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok and Commander of Daily Incidents, chaired the meeting of the Bangkok Incident Command Center during the Songkran Festival at the Suthat Room, Bangkok City Hall, Phra Nakhon District. The meeting was attended by Pol. Gen. Adit Ngamjitsuksri, Advisor to the Governor of Bangkok.
Mr. Wirat instructed the Traffic and Transportation Department to ensure the readiness of CCTV cameras, addressing any issues promptly. He also requested support from district offices in resolving problems encountered, thanking all district officers and command center staff for their continued efforts throughout the festival period.
Pol. Gen. Adit emphasized the importance of camera readiness and enforcement of rules regarding shop setups that may obstruct walkways and emergency exits. He urged affected districts to collaborate with local police stations in addressing these issues consistently.
The Traffic and Transportation Department reported two accidents on April 13, 2015, resulting in one injury and one death. From April 11-13, 2015, there were 11 accidents, 4 injuries, and 10 deaths. Fire incidents on April 13, 2025, included two grass fires, one vehicle fire, and two house and building fires, resulting in four injuries. From April 11-17, 2025, there were 11 fires, causing eight injuries and one death.
The Songkran Festival participant numbers on Silom Road were 51,900 on April 12, 2015, and 113,339 on April 13, 2015, totaling 165,239 over two days. On Khao San Road, there were 59,523 participants on April 12, 2015, and 137,791 on April 13, 2015, resulting in 197,314 participants over two days.
