Southern Unrest: Hanging Banners, Burning Cameras, Placing Suspicious Objects

Yala: Perpetrators continue to cause unrest, hanging banners, burning cameras, and placing suspicious objects in several locations in Yala Province. The unrest in the three southern border provinces continues. The latest report today in Yala Province is that there were unrest incidents in several districts, such as at roadside shelters in Muang District, Yala Province, where banners were hung and suspicious objects were placed. In the Than To Police Station area, banners were hung in Village 7, Wang Sila, Village 11, Bo Hin Nok, across Highway 410. There was also the burning of a CCTV camera belonging to Kabang Subdistrict Municipality that was damaged, and attempts to burn two newly installed 4G cameras. Officials believe that this was an attempt to create a situation by insurgents in the area.

According to Thai News Agency, the director of the Election Commission of Yala Province provided information that the banners that were hung in various areas were partly a campaign against vote buying or selling. However, whether there was another hidden meaning or not, it will have to be discussed with the security sector again. This Sunday, May 11, there will be an election for members of the municipal council and the mayor. The Election Commission of Yala has coordinated with the governor and police to provide security at the polling stations.
