Summer Storm Devastates Over 200 Homes in Isan Provinces

Nakhon Phanom: Summer storms have wreaked havoc in the northeastern provinces of Thailand, causing severe damage to properties and infrastructure. In Nakhon Phanom, two districts have been heavily affected, with more than 200 houses destroyed.

According to Thai News Agency, the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DDPM) reported that 237 houses suffered damage, particularly in the Sri Songkhram and Ban Phaeng districts. Sri Songkhram was the worst hit, with over 170 houses affected across 11 villages in two sub-districts. Meanwhile, Ban Phaeng saw damage to 67 houses across three sub-districts. Local officials have been dispatched to assess the damages and facilitate the compensation process in accordance with government regulations.

Mr. Samak, a shop owner in Na Duea Subdistrict, Sri Songkhram District, recounted the ferocity of the storm, which demolished the roof of his shop in under 10 minutes, leaving his belongings in ruins. Bueng Kan Province also faced severe impacts from the storm, with Bueng Khong Long District experiencing significant damage. In three sub-districts, including Bueng Khong Long, Pho Mak Khaeng, and Dong Bang, approximately 30 houses and shops were damaged. Ms. Suphanni, a furniture shop owner, reported that the wind carried her shop's roof 10 meters away, causing extensive damage estimated at over 300,000 baht. Damaged furniture is now being sold below cost to mitigate losses.

In a dramatic incident in Bueng Kan Province, a lottery vendor narrowly escaped harm when a strong windstorm struck as she drove through the rain at Tham Nakha. A large log pierced her car's window, shattering all four windows, leaving her in shock but unharmed.
