The new royally appointed Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Ariya Wongsa Khottayan yesterday began his official function paying respects to the remains of 19 deceased supreme patriarchs in the Rattanakosin era at various temples.
The Supreme Patriarch travelled to Wat Rachapradit Sathitmahasimaram Ratchaworawihan to pay his respect to the ashes of his predecessor, the ninth supreme patriarch of the Rattanakosin era.
It was the third day of the official ceremony when the current Supreme Patriarch will pay his respects to the remains of all 19 deceased supreme patriarchs in the Rattanakosin era as is the normal practice for all newly appointed supreme patriarchs.
The official ceremony was attended by large number of crowds from the general public who congregated all around the temple grounds.
Many blessed the new Supreme Patriarch by making offerings of flower garlands, candles and joysticks.
After the ceremony his holiness travelled to the Buddhamonthon Buddhist Centre to chair his first official meeting with the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand.
Following this, his holiness then travelled to Wat Rakhang Khosittaram Woramahawiharn to pay his respect to the remains of the first supreme patriarch and the remains of other subsequent supreme patriarchs at other major temples in the capital.
