Nakhon Ratchasima: The Thai national futsal team, known as "Changsuk Five," secured a decisive 4-0 victory against Australia, claiming third place in the 2024 ASEAN Futsal Championship held at Terminal Hall, Terminal 21 Korat Shopping Mall. Led by Vice President of the Football Association of Thailand, Adisak Benjasiriwan, and team manager, Suthin Buatum, the Thai squad showcased a strong performance in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Previously, Thailand faced a setback after losing to Indonesia 1-5 in the semi-finals, while Australia was defeated by Vietnam in a closely contested match that ended 4-5 in extra time. According to Thai News Agency, the game commenced with Thailand gaining an early advantage in the 6th minute when Phiraphat Kaewwilai scored the opening goal, assisted by Ammarin Ekaphan. Despite attempts from Australia to level the score, Thailand extended their lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute with a goal from Thanawat Kerdbangrachan, following an assist by Chaowala Sri-Awut. The first half concluded with another goal from Kerdbangrachan, bringing the score to 3-0. The second half saw Thailand maintaining their dominance. In the 29th minute, a promising attempt by Chaowala Sri-Awut was thwarted by Australian goalkeeper Noah Felich. Nevertheless, Thailand capitalized on a power play mistake by the Australian team, with Ammarin Ekaphan securing the final goal from his own half, sealing the 4-0 victory. Post-match, team manager Suthin Buatum praised the young Thai athletes, acknowledging their resilience and readiness to face challenges. He expressed gratitude towards supporters, including Khun Mae Wareeporn Tantiwong, President of Songwonwong Industry Co., Ltd., and other local supporters who rallied behind the team throughout the tournament. Buatum emphasized the importance of continued development for this new generation of players, with a focus on preparing for future competitions like the 2025 SEA Games, which Thailand will host.
