Bangkok: A young man caused a stir on Bangna-Trat Road when he drove a 14-wheel trailer truck against the flow of traffic, narrowly avoiding multiple accidents. The driver admitted to being disoriented due to insufficient rest.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved a white 14-wheel Hino trailer truck traveling in the wrong direction on Theparat Road (Bangna-Trat) toward Bangkok, around kilometer 47. The driver failed to heed oncoming vehicles, nearly causing several collisions. The Bang Pakong Police Station intervened, instructing the driver to pull over at kilometer 48 for further questioning.
The driver, identified as 34-year-old Mr. Kritsada, explained that he was en route to Rayong but was uncertain of the correct path, leading him to mistakenly drive against traffic. The police, perplexed by his actions, asked him to stop at the Bang Pakong Police Station for further discussion and to impose a fine for endangering public safety.
The driver's girlfriend, who was accompanying him, disclosed that they had rested at a gas station on the Chonburi bypass road before resuming their journey at 6:00 AM. She intended to deliver goods in Nonthaburi. Upon reaching kilometer 44 on Theparat Road, while in the parallel lane, her boyfriend unexpectedly veered into the express lane and drove against traffic. Her inquiries about their direction were met with silence, followed by an alarming outburst from him, claiming he was "going to die soon," which left her frightened throughout the ordeal.
Mr. Kritsada further explained that his daily routine of driving a delivery truck left him with little time to rest, resulting in dizziness and disorientation. He expressed remorse for the disturbance and potential danger he caused to other road users during the incident.
