Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has employed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to examine the Samsen Road electric train line construction site, and no underground holes have been detected, indicating a positive safety signal. There was light rain this morning along Samsen Road.
According to Thai News Agency, the BMA is vigilantly overseeing the Samsen Road electric train line construction site. The Department of Public Works, in conjunction with the Dusit District Office, is conducting field inspections utilizing GPR equipment to identify any anomalies, such as cavities or voids, that may compromise future safety.
The inspection covered two phases: the first from the Kiak Kai Intersection to the 4th Cavalry Battalion, and the second from the Bang Krabue Intersection to Khlong Samsen. The scanning began at midnight on September 27, 2015, to minimize traffic impact, with municipal officers and police offering close assistance.
Preliminary findings indicated no underground cavities, which is reassuring. Nonetheless, the BMA will persist in monitoring to ensure safety at the construction site. In anticipation of heavy rain, the Drainage and Sewerage Department has positioned high-pressure water pumps in secure locations to prevent soil structure impact. Operations will be supervised by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and experts to ensure optimal safety.
At the sinkhole site on Samsen Road in front of Vajira Hospital, preventative measures include blocking off four points to avert water inflow into the sinkhole. Sandbags have been deployed to form a dam, preventing water from flowing down the road surface. Hydraulic water pumps have been installed as a contingency for water extraction if necessary. Light rain has already been observed on Samsen Road this morning.
