Erosion Threatens Collapse of Somdej Toh Temple in Ang Thong

Ang thong: Water from the Chao Phraya River has eroded a dam beneath the Somdej Toh Temple, a famous temple in Ang Thong. Monks and villagers fear it will collapse and are working to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, in Ubon Ratchathani, water is being pumped quickly to protect the inner area of the community.

According to Thai News Agency, under the ground of the Somdej Phra Buddhacarya Toh Phrommarangsi Shrine at Wat Chaiyo Worawihan in Chaiyo District, Ang Thong Province, water has been found to be eroding the dam's walls, trapping them at a depth of more than 50 cm and rising steadily. The temple has implemented a preliminary solution by using small water pumps to pump out the water, fearing structural damage or the temple's collapse. Although the Chao Phraya River's water level has stabilized after the dam reduced its discharge to 2,100 cubic meters per second for three days, the river remains high, causing it to overflow the dam at several points and continue to increase.

In Ubon Ratchathani Province, in preparation for Tropical Storm Bualoi and the critical water levels of the Mun River, officials are mobilizing pumps to drain water from communities along the Mun River in Warin Chamrap District. They are also evacuating 75 low-lying households to designated areas. Meanwhile, Warin Chamrap Municipality has closed the Mun River's water gates to prevent the river from flowing into the inner city. Water levels remain manageable. The municipality has coordinated with relevant agencies to install two 16-inch water pumps, operating them from morning until midnight, and instructing the irrigation department to pump water back to normal levels to avoid impacting municipal areas.

In Loei Province, Tropical Storm Bualoi caused heavy rain in Chiang Khan District since yesterday afternoon and into the middle of the night, causing flooding in several areas. The main road heading into Chiang Khan, Ban Na Bon, Na Sao Subdistrict, experienced 60 centimeters of flooding, with strong currents. Additionally, a wall at Wat Si Phon Taen in Ban Na Sao collapsed, plunging the ground for over 100 meters. No injuries have been reported. Meanwhile, in Chiang Khan Subdistrict Municipality, 50 centimeters of flooding is still pending. Chiang Khan Subdistrict Municipality has deployed Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) personnel to assist residents in moving belongings to higher ground.
