Fifteen labour groups and their alliances rallied today (Tuesday), at the Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, to demand wage rises and the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The protesters intended to submit their three-point demand to Government House officials, but they were prevented from doing so by police and barricades, there to prevent protesters from getting close.

Their leaders then read a prepared statement stating their three demands, which include increasing the minimum wage to 425 baht/per day across the country by October and to 492 baht/day next January, a cut in the prices of all kinds of petrol by six baht/litre and a reduction in the prices of consumer products.

They also demand that the prime minister step down by August 24th.

Police have used cargo containers, razor wire and steel barriers to block accesses to Government House, in preparation for several protest groups who plan to march to Government House this evening, to demand the resignation of the prime minister.
